Bronson Koenig connected on a school-record eight 3-pointers en route to a game-high 28 points and Nigel Hayes posted a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds to lead eighth-seeded Wisconsin to a 84-74 win over No. 9 seed Virginia Tech in the first round of the NCAA tournament Thursday.
Making their 19th-consecutive NCAA tournament appearance, the Badgers won their opening-round game for the 10th time in the last 11 seasons.
Wisconsin will face the tournament's No. 1 overall seed, Villanova, in a second-round game Saturday at KeyBank Center.
