Don Granato leaves Badgers program to take job with Chicago Blackhawks

Wisconsin hockey associate head coach Don Granato is leaving the program to become an assistant coach with his hometown Chicago Blackhawks. Don has pro head coaching experience in the American League and the East Coast League.

Wisconsin hockey head coach Tony Granato says the offer from the Blackhawks was too good to pass up, as he spoke with Brian Posick of 1310 WIBA in Madison on Thursday morning. Tony says they will begin the search for a new assistant coach immediately.

Some candidates include former UW assistant current Vermont assistant coach Kevin Patrick, Ohio State assistant coach Mark Strobel, and former Badger Andy Brandt, who currently coaches the ECHL's Gwinnett Gladiators.
