When it was announced earlier this year that the Big Ten would begin playing select games on Friday nights, the move was met with plenty of reaction from high school football coaches around the Midwest. Here in Wisconsin, it seems that the coaches are nearly unanimous in saying it's a bad move and appears to only be a play to make even more television money.
This week, I got several coaches on record explaining why they think the Big Ten should stick to Saturdays, or at least not play on Fridays opposite high school football. Coaches included here are Waunakee's Pat Rice, Verona's Dave Richardson, Madison Memorial's Adam Smith, Mount Horeb/Barneveld's Ryan Kleppe, and Sun Prairie's Brian Kaminski. Additionally, Travis Wilson of WisSports.net, who also works for the Wisconsin Football Coaches' Association, explains how the membership of coaches in Wisconsin felt about the move, describing it in two words: "Hate it."
