Cap City Cougars fall in state championship game, 3-1

In their first-ever appearance in the state hockey championship, the Cap City Cougars fell 3-1 to the Eau Claire Area Stars on Saturday.

Zephryn Jager tied the game at 1-apiece in the first period, and the Cougars and Stars drew even in the second period. However, ECA scored twice in the third period to capture their first-ever state title in their first-ever state tournament appearance.

Cougars coach Jeff Thornton spoke about the game, the effort, and what it was like to coach his daughter, Taylor, who played her last game as a senior in the championship:
