Matt Kenseth isn't worried about rust, since he's only been out of NASCAR for a few months. Rather, he's excited, and Roush Fenway Racing could see immediate positive impacts from Kenseth's return.
Kenseth told reporters Wednesday that he had six months off, which felt like the quickest six months in his life. After joking in 2017 that he'd drive a bus if he had to step aside, the Cambridge, Wis. native will be driving the #6 instead in the NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series in a time-share with Trevor Bayne.
May 12 will be the debut date for Kenseth's return, in the race at Kansas.
