NWL Weekend Recap: Madison wins twice; Lakeshore wins via walk-off

Madison evened their record at .500 with two wins, while Lakeshore earned an exciting walk-off win on Sunday in weekend action in the Northwoods League.

Friday

Kenosha 12, Lakeshore 7

The Kenosha Kingfish held off a late threat by the Lakeshore Chinooks. The Kingfish exploded for six runs in the fourth. Kenosha had another huge inning in the eighth with five runs. Lakeshore wasn’t done as they got three in the bottom of the ninth, but a five-run lead was enough for Kenosha to end the game.

Madison 5, Green Bay 3

The Madison Mallards took the lead in the eighth and tacked on more in the ninth as they defeated the Green Bay Bullfrogs 5-3.

La Crosse 2, Eau Claire 1

The La Crosse Loggers stayed hot as they defeated the Eau Claire Express in a close 2-1 game. 

Saturday

Rockford 8, Lakeshore 1

The Rockford Rivets went off in the sixth inning and defeated the Lakeshore Chinooks 8-1.

Wisconsin 3, Kenosha 1

The Wisconsin Woodchucks got to each of the Kenosha Kingfish pitchers and defeated them 3-1. 

Fond du Lac 10, Madison 6

The Fond du Lac Dock Spiders used a huge seventh inning to defeat the Madison Mallards 10-6. The Spiders posted seven In the bottom half and broke the game wide open. Chris Ayers (Indiana State) was the highlight as he hit a single and double in the same inning and ended the night with two RBI and two runs scored.

Duluth 5, Eau Claire 3

The Duluth Huskies avoided a late threat from the Eau Claire Express and won the game 5-3.

Sunday

Madison 3, Fond du Lac 1

The Madison Mallards managed runs in three consecutive innings to go ahead and defeat the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders 3-1.

Lakeshore 5, Rockford 4

The Lakeshore Chinooks walked off the Rockford Rivets in a 5-4 game. Lakeshore made a move to pinch-hit Cole Turney (Arkansas) to lead off the bottom of the ninth. He then took the Rivets deep for a walk-off home run.

Duluth 8, Eau Claire 7

The Duluth Huskies won in walk-off form as they defeated the Eau Claire Express 8-7. The Huskies loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth and cleared them with a triple to win the game.

Wisconsin 2, Kenosha 1

The Wisconsin Woodchucks walked it off in the bottom of the ninth and defeated the Kenosha Kingfish 2-1. Isaac Quinoes (Miami) delivered with two guys on and no outs with a single in the bottom of the ninth which scored the game-winner.

Madison (3-3) at Kalamazoo (4-2) - 6:05 p.m.

Standings: 1 GB in South Division

The Mallards hit the road for two games against the Kalamazoo Growlers. They return to the Duck Pond Wednesday, June 6 to host the Wisconsin Woodchucks for a 6:05 pm start.

Lakeshore (2-4) at Battle Creek (1-4) - 6:05 p.m.

Standings: 2 GB in South Division

The Chinooks will travel to Battle Creek for a two game road trip against the Bombers. First pitch for the game will be at 6:05 pm. Lakeshore will return home on Wednesday for an 11:35 am game against Green Bay.

Kenosha (3-2) at Green Bay (2-4) - 6:05 p.m.

Standings: 0.5 GB in South Division

After Sunday's loss, the Kingfish still stand just a half game out of first place in the Northwoods League South Division. Monday, they travel to Green Bay for a two-game series against the Bullfrogs. Both games will be at 6:35 p.m.

Eau Claire (1-5) at Thunder Bay (2-4) - 6:05 p.m.

Standings: 3 GB in North Division

The Express will travel to Thunder Bay for two games before returning home for a 6:35 p.m. first pitch on Wednesday, June 6th, against the Bismark Larks.
