NWL: Extra-inning contests unkind to Kenosha, Eau Claire on Thursday

Lakeshore and Eau Claire dropped extra-innings contests on Thursday night in the Northwoods League, while the first-place Mallards picked up another win with a late run-scoring play to beat Wisconsin. Plus, a preview of this weekend's games.

Madison 3, Wisconsin 2

The Madison Mallards (7-3) stayed a game ahead of the pack in the South Division with an exciting 3-2 victory over the Woodchucks (4-6), and a sweep of the two-game series. With the score still tied at 2-2 in the ninth inning, the Mallards loaded the bases with two outs via a hit batsman and two walks. David Vinsky (Northwood) drove in the winning run, legging out a single to the left side, just beating the throw to first base on a bang-bang play.  Garrett Kueber (Austin Peay) scored the go-ahead run.

Bismarck 3, Eau Claire 1 (11 Innings)

The Bismarck Larks broke the tie in the 11th inning and defeated the Eau Claire Express 3-1.  The Larks took the lead in the top of the 11th. Tanner Halvorson (Indian Hills CC) was on the mound for the Express. Brandon Barna led off the inning with a single. Matthew Warkentin would follow with a single that advanced Barna to third. A sacrifice fly by Jacob Nesbit would give the Larks a 2-1 lead. The next batter, Dylan Rock would hit his own sacrifice fly to score Warkentin and bring the Bismarck lead to 3-1. Eau Claire went quickly and quietly in the bottom of the 11th to end the game.

Kalamazoo 7, Kenosha 5 (11 Innings)

Kalamazoo tacked on two in the top of the 11th and defeated the Kenosha Kingfish 7-5.

Green Bay 6, Lakeshore 1

The Green Bay Bullfrogs got all six runs in the seventh inning as they went on to defeat the Lakeshore Chinooks 6-1.
