McFarland soccer off to 8-2 start halfway through the season

McFarland boy's soccer is 8-2 at the midway point of the regular season, with both losses coming by one goal. Coach Brett Ogorzalek credits the strong play so far to a solid returning core of players and improvement each week from tough competition.

McFarland, ranked in Division 3, has lost twice this year to D1 schools in the rugged Big 8 (Madison East and Madison Memorial), but the Spartans have also defeated larger schools, such as Verona, Madison La Follette, and Monona Grove.

The schedule stays difficult. Thursday night's match is against DeForest, 3-0 in the Badger, and the schedule still contains top programs such as Mount Horeb, Madison West, and a big Rock Valley Conference showdown with East Troy/Palmyra-Eagle next week.
