Madison Memorial's successful 2018 campaign could become a championship one if they can take down a challenging opponent this Friday. The Spartans take on Janesville Craig, and a win clinches Memorial a share of the Big 8 Conference title.
Coach Mike Harris never envisioned they'd be in a position for a championship, much less call it a goal. Harris says they stressed getting young players (and veteran players) to buy in to the new system, which has happened ahead of schedule, as a big season-opening win over Sun Prairie has now turned into a potential conference title season for the Spartans.
Harris believes Janesville Craig presents a number of problems, with several big-time playmakers on both sides of the ball who seem to do well in whatever task they're assigned on a given play, and he's particularly impressed with future Wisconsin Badger Keeanu Benton, who Harris says plays lineman like you'd expect a top college recruit and decorated wrestler to.
