A six-run ninth inning that included a grand slam doomed the Brewers on Thursday afternoon against the Padres at Miller Park. San Diego took the series, two games to one, over Milwaukee.
With a 4-2 lead entering the ninth inning, Corey Knebel began the top of the ninth by walking the first three batters. After a run-scoring infield single, Knebel exited and Joakim Soria entered, and promptly gave up a grand slam to give the Padres the lead. San Diego would tack on one more and won the game 8-4.
The loss spoiled a solid effort by Junior Guerra on the mound, who gave up two runs in six innings. Travis Shaw collected three hits in the game.
