Offense Finally Supports Corbin Burnes As Crew Wins 4-1 Over Padres

The Brewers put a stop to a mini two game losing streak with their ace, reigning NL Cy Young Corbin Burnes, on the mound. Milwaukee cruised to a 4-1 victory over the San Diego Padres.

San Diego got out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning off Burnes, stringing together a pair of hits to put runners on the corners and then the run scoring while the Brewers turned a double play. That is the first run that Burnes has allowed in the first three innings of a game all season.

And it was the last run the Padres would score all night.

Milwaukee would pull even with the Padres in the 5th inning as third baseman Mike Brosseau slugged a mammoth solo home run to left field off the third level of the Western Metal Supply Company building. Then, an inning later, with two on and one out, Tyrone Taylor crushed a three run homer to left field to put the Brewers up 4-1. Taylor got the start in right field in place of Hunter Renfroe who was placed on the 10 day IL earlier on Tuesday with a hamstring strain.

That run support was all Burnes and the Brewers bullpen needed. Burnes finished with 6 IP, scattering five hits, one run, two walks, with five strikeouts. It was Burnes' seventh quality start of the year and he's only made nine starts total. He lowered his ERA to 2.18 on the year.

From there, Hoby Milner, Trevor Gott, and Devin Williams combined for the final three innings to close out the win for the Brewers.

Burnes gets the win and improves to 2-2 on the year, Blake Snell takes the loss for San Diego, falling to 0-2, while Williams picked up his third save.

The rubber match is Wednesday afternoon as Aaron Ashby (0-3, 3.49 ERA) takes the mound for Milwaukee against Yu Darvish (4-1, 3.91 ERA) of the Padres.
