The Brewers losing streak reached seven games on Friday night as the Crew fell to the cellar-dwelling Washington Nationals by a score of 11-5.
It was a relentless assault from the Nationals offense against Aaron Ashby and the Brewers pitchers. Nelson Cruz got the scoring started in the first with an RBI single to give the Nats a 1-0 lead. Jace Peterson answered in the 2nd inning with a 2-run homer to give the Brewers the lead. However, they would cough it up again in the 3rd as Juan Soto got an RBI groundout and Cruz followed with another RBI single.
The Nats led 3-2 until Jace Peterson answered again, this time with a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 3. After that, it was all Nationals.
Maikel Franco, Josh Bell, Keibert Ruiz, and Nelson Cruz all homered as Washington jumped out to 11 runs. The Brewers scored a couple in the 8th, but ended up losing 11-5.
The Brewers allowed 19 hits, with 13 of them coming off Ashby in his 4.2 IP, allowing six earned runs.
Manager Craig Counsell was ejected in the 5th inning after a series of questionable calls from the umpiring crew. He was ejected while walking out to remove Ashby from the game and still went to the mound to make the move before retiring to the clubhouse for the remainder of the game.
Milwaukee will try to end the losing streak on Saturday with Eric Lauer (5-1, 2.38 ERA) on the bump facing Patrick Corbin (2-8, 6.71 ERA) and the Nats.
