Jaguars Will Reportedly Sign Tim Tebow to One-Year Contract

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport is reporting that the Jacksonville Jaguars will indeed sign 33-year-old former NFL player Tim Tebow to a one-year contract, as the recently-retired Minor League Baseball player who hasn’t played in the NFL since 2012 will reunite with his former Florida Gators head coach Urban Meyer.

Tebow had previously tried to make the Major Leagues with the New York Mets, appearing in 306 six minor league games from 2016 to 2019, but ultimately ended his deam after hitting just .223 in 940 at-bats, with 18 home runs and 327 strikeouts.

Tebow won two National Championships with Meyer in Gainsville in 2006 and 2008 and captured the Heisman trophy in 2008.

He had tried to make it in the NFL as a quarterback, going 7-4 in 2011 as a miracle worker relieving the teetering Kyle Orton, and took a 1-4 Broncos team to the playoffs at 8-8.

That would culminate in one of the most memorable games of the 2000s, as Tebow would lead the Broncos to a home playoff victory over a 12-4 Steelers team, including throwing a walk-off 80-yard touchdown to Demaryius Thomas in overtime.

Tebow will move to tight end for a retooled Jaguars team who drafted Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence with the no. 1 overall pick.

The tight ends currently on the Jags roster include Chris Manhertz, Luke Farrell, Tyler Davis, James O’Shaugnessy, and Ben Ellefson.
