Big 8-leading Verona earned the #1 seed in Sectional 6 in boys hockey, while Cap City, last year's state runner-up, got a #1 seed in Sectional 3 in girls hockey in the playoff brackets released by the WIAA on Sunday.
Cap City will await the winner of #4 Metro Lynx and #5 Viroqua on February 15, to be played at Sun Prairie on February 19. On the other side of the Sectional 3 bracket, Rock County will face the Badger Lightning on February 14 in Beloit, while Stoughton will visit Onalaska on the same night.
Over on the boys side, most of the Madison-area teams are in Sectional 6, where Verona holds the top seed. They'll see the winner of #8 McFarland and #9 Oregon on February 14 in Verona. On the other side of the bracket, #5 Middleton will visit #4 Edgewood at LaBahn Arena on February 15.
On the bottom side of the Sectional 6 bracket, #2 Sun Prairie will play on February 14 against the winner of #7 Waunakee and #10 Monona Grove. #3 Madison West will host either Madison Memorial or the East/La Follette Lakers on February 14 at Madison Ice Arena.
Badger North-leading RWD got a #2 seed in Sectional 4, and they'll see the winner of Viroqua and Baraboo/Portage on February 14. #9 DeForest plays #8 Black River Falls on February 12, with the winner traveling to Onalaska two nights later, and #4 Sauk Prairie will host #5 Aquinas on February 14.
Finally, in Sectional 7, Janesville got a #4 seed and will host Whitefish Bay on either February 14 or 15. #8 Monroe will host #9 Greendale on February 12, as the Cheesemakers seek their first-ever playoff win. #7 Stoughton will meet #10 Milton at Mandt Ice Arena on February 12, which is the home ice for both programs. Finally, #6 Beloit will host #11 Kenosha on February 12.
The WIAA State Hockey Championships are in Madison at the Alliant Energy Center inside the Coliseum February 28-March 2.
