Chalk ruled the first day of regionals in the WIAA state girls basketball tournament, with home teams winning at a high rate as play opened in the tournament across Wisconsin.
In Division 1 (Bracket), only a couple of play-in games transpired. Kenosha Indian Trail downed Madison West 44-33 to advance, while Janesville Parker beat Beloit Memorial 73-59 to set up Friday's 16-team, 8-game Division 1, Sectional 3 regional semifinal round.
Division 2 (Bracket) had several games take place between seeds #6 through #11. In the 6-vs-11 games, Stoughton beat Sauk Prairie handily, 66-43. McFarland won a 7-vs-10 match-up with Mount Horeb 47-35 to move on, as did Jefferson over Westosha Central, 55-25. The 8-vs-9 games were intriguing as well, with Fort Atkinson eking out a 28-25 win over Delavan-Darien, and Portage besting Baraboo 38-37.
It was more home cooking in Division 3 (Bracket), where Edgewood dominated Poynette 57-36 to advance. Richland Center blasted Edgerton 71-49, and Evansville stomped River Valley 49-23. In addition to Evansville, other Rock Valley Conference first-round winneres included Clinton (82-60 over Racine St. Catherine's), Big Foot (86-24 over St. Francis), and Whitewater (70-17 over St. Thomas More).

The WIAA regionals continue Friday with semifinals and Saturday with finals statewide, with every remaining team in the tournament playing this Friday night.
