Edgewood, the first-place team in the Badger South, got out of a bases-loaded jam in the top of the fourth inning leading 3-0 before cruising in the final two innings of their 10-0 five-inning victory over Monroe on Monday afternoon at Warner Park.
With one out in the top of the fourth inning, down only 3-0, Monroe loaded the bases for the bottom third of their order. A sharp lineout to right field wasn't enough to score the runner from third, and a strikeout by the next batter ended the frame without any runs coming across for the Cheesemakers.
Edgewood took that momentum into the bottom half of the fourth inning, batting around in a five-run inning to go up big and pull away in a five-inning victory.
Jackson Wendler pitched a complete-game shutout for the Crusaders, notching five strikeouts while giving up only two hits in the winning effort. Edgewood piled up nine hits, drew seven walks along with three hit-by-pitches, and reached on error twice to stock up on baserunners as well.
