Defending D1 softball champion Sun Prairie needed 10 innings to defeat Waukesha North 4-1 in a Division 1 quarterfinal Thursday afternoon, while Belmont had no trouble blowing out Tri-County 15-0 in six innings in the D5 semifinals Thursday evening in the WIAA State Softball Tournament.
Sun Prairie took a 1-0 lead as Grace Radlund scored on a Sabrina Reuter hit in the top of the third inning. Waukesha North tied it up in the bottom of the seventh on Maddie Krenz scored on a wild pitch to send it to extras. There, the Cardinals put up three runs in the top of the seventh, two of them unearned, as Sun Prairie won 4-1 and moves on to play Pulaski on Friday night around 9 p.m. Maddie Gardner won the duel of complete-game efforts in the match-up with Maddy Anderson, as each went the distance in a 10-inning contest.

Belmont blasted Tri-County in six innings, piling up 15 hits and 15 runs in a 15-0 shutout victory. MacKenzie Shelnutt had three hits and a home run with 4 RBI to lead the Braves, while Sadie Willborn threw a complete-game two-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts.
