Before the DeForest Norskies take on the Waunakee Warriors in a winner-take-all Badger North Conference championship game, the school will honor the late Hall of Fame coach Jerry Roelke, and recognize current coach Mike Minick, as he tells The Big 1070 that this is his final season.
"It's bittersweet," Minick tells The Big 1070. "But it allows me to focus on this year's team and see how far we can take it."
Minick had high praise for his predecessor, Coach Roelke.
"He was Mr. Norski here. Everyone looked at him as the football icon in DeForest. He was a tremendous man, and I have a lot of respect for him."
Last year, Waunakee defeated DeForest twice, including in the playoffs on a late interception in the waning seconds. Hype for this year's game has been building since that game ended, essentially.
