Last week, Edgewood claimed their 15th state championship in girls golf, all since 2001, by winning the 2019 WIAA Division 2 crown at University Ridge.
This week, The Big 1070 caught up with coach Peggy Gierhart to talk about the championship. Coach Gierhart says that winning championships never gets old, because it's done with a new group of girls each time.
In this year's event, a slow start made the Division 2 team leaderboard interesting, but the back nine on the first day of the event is where the Crusaders pulled away, says Gierhart.
Edgewood won going away and also had the individual medalist, Grace Welch, in Division 2. It's the fifth time Edgewood has had the individual medalist and team championship in the same year.
