Last week, after finishing as the runner-up in 2018, the Middleton Cardinals girls golf team took home the 2019 Division 1 WIAA State Championship at University Ridge.
Coach Becky Halverson joined The Big 1070 to talk about winning the program's third state championship, and second with Halverson as head coach.
Halverson credited a good mix of experience and younger talent joining the varsity ranks for putting the Cardinals over the top in 2019, with each class represented throughout the year for Middleton.
On a lighter note, Halverson also discussed the championship "rivalry" with her brother, Middleton boys volleyball coach Ben White, and the camaraderie between Middleton and Edgewood, the other state championship program in 2019.
