Waunakee opens as the top seed in Division 1, Sectional 3 in the WIAA girls volleyball tournament, and will face the winner of Reedsburg or Tomah on Saturday night.
Coach Anne Denkert told The Big 1070 that the number-one seed is well-earned, given a difficult schedule and some late-season wins over top conference rivals. The schedule includes several teams that were ranked in the final WVCA Coaches Poll, and a number of teams that will have home-court advantage for the early stages of the postseason.
Coach Denkert credits hard work and experience in the success this season, and now that the playoffs have arrived, there's a different atmosphere for matches in that unlike some of the in-season tournaments and invites, there's only one opponent to play on a given night.
