Thursday's action moved the WIAA Volleyball Tournament on to Saturday's regional final round, and now every remaining team in the field will be in action starting this weekend. Here are some of the area results and Saturday match-ups.
In Division 1, Sectional 3, it was chalk as all of the higher seeds advanced. The only match that wasn't a three-game sweep for area teams was #6 Madison Memorial fending off #11 Baraboo 25-9, 25-20, 21-25, 14-25, 15-13. #8 Reedsburg will rematch with #1 Waunakee, while #5 Middleton will head to #4 DeForest on one side of the sectional bracket. On the other, #6 Madison Memorial will take on #3 Sun Prairie, while #7 Onalaska will head to #2 Verona.
Division 1, Sectional 4 saw both Badger Conference teams advance, with #7 Beaver Dam and #2 Watertown earning 3-game sweeps in their matches. Those two teams meet for a regional title on Saturday.
In Division 1, Sectional 6, the lone upset was #9 Badger defeating #8 Janesville Craig three games to one. Area match-ups on Saturday include #5 Fort Atkinson at #4 Milton and #7 Monona Grove at #2 Janesville Parker.
Division 2, Sectional 3 saw one upset and only one other higher seed advance with less than a three-game sweep. The upset was #6 Sauk Prairie sweeping #3 Edgewood 25-21, 25-22, 25-18. Saturday's regional finals will see #4 Mount Horeb at #1 Platteville and #6 Sauk Prairie at #2 McFarland on one side of the bracket, with #4 Lake Mills visiting #1 Lake Country Lutheran and #3 East Troy heading to #2 Lakeside Lutheran on the other side.
Division 3, Sectional 3 went chalk, with a handful of matches going more than three games. #3 River Ridge needed all five games to get past #6 Belleville, winning 15-5 in the final game. #2 Wisconsin Heights got past #7 Mineral Point three games to one, and #3 Marshall ousted #6 Lomira by the same margin. Saturday's games include #3 Marshall at #2 Laconia, #4 Johnson Creek at #1 Waterloo, #3 River Ridge at #2 Wisconsin Heights, and #4 Cuba City at #1 Brodhead.
Division 4, Sectional 3 was all top seeds advancing as well. #4 Shullsburg meets #1 Iowa-Grant on Saturday, as well as #3 Highland traveling to #2 Seneca. In Sectional 4, #3 Black Hawk will take on #2 Fall River.
