HSFB: State quarterfinals set across Wisconsin

Level 3 match-ups in the high school football playoffs are set after Level 2 saw a number of upsets in snowy, cold weather across Wisconsin.

In Division 1, seven of the eight advancing teams were the home team (higher seed), with the lone exception being #6 Sun Prairie upending #2 Fond du Lac 34-30. That sets up Appleton North at Kimberly, Marquette at Bay Port, Franklin at Muskego, and Sun Prairie at Madison Memorial (which you can hear on iHeartRadio by going to thebig1070.com/fm) as the last four games.

Division 2 saw three #1 seeds fall on Friday in Level 2, sending a trio of #4 seeds along: Superior, Brookfield East, and Burlington, the latter two winning rivalry game rematches. Superior will travel across the state to Kaukauna, Brookfield East heads to Menomonee Falls, and Burlington will be at Waukesha West, shutout winners over #2 Wilmot, in those three quarterfinals. The only quadrant of the bracket that went chalk was #1 Hartford shutting out Holmen 26-0 and #2 Waunakee rallying to defeat #3 Milton 35-28, with those two winners meeting in Level 3.

Like Division 1, Division 3 was remarkably chalky with one notable exception: #7 Monroe, after holding off #2 Onalaska on a two-point conversion late in Level 1, upset #3 Stoughton in Level 2 14-7. Medfort is at Menomonie (which you can hear on iHeartRadio by searching WMEQ), Menasha is at Weset De Pere, Plymouth is at New Berlin Eisenhower, and Monroe is at DeForest in the four Level 3 match-ups this week.

A few lower seeds advanced in Division 4, with #5 Lakeside Lutheran being the lowest seed to move on, as they defeated #1 Evansville 14-6. #3 Wrightstown downed #2 Baldwin-Woodville 23-6 on Saturday, and #3 Berlin handled #7 Winneconne 24-7. The Level 3 pairings are Wrightstown at Freedom, Berlin at Kiel, Lake Mills at Catholic Memorial, and Lakeside Lutheran at River Valley.

Division 5 had just one mild upset: #3 Chilton over #2 Kewaunee 41-26. The rest of the bracket went as seeded as it applies to Level 3, with all number one seeds remaining. The pairings are Northwestern at Stratford, Prairie du Chien at Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau, Racine St. Catherine's at Lake Country Lutheran, and Chilton at Amherst.

Division 6 has one notable upset-minded team, and that's #6 Coleman, out-scoring opponents 86-28 in two road games so far. Coleman is at top-seeded Abbotsford in their quarter of the bracket. The remaining #2 at #1 match-ups are Spring Valley at Regis (on iHeartRadio by searching for WBIZ-AM), St. Mary's Springs at Racine Lutheran, and Mineral Point at Mondovi (on iHeartRadio by searching for WATQ).

In Division 7, there were three #3 over #2 games, but all four #1 seeds advanced. The Level 3 match-ups are Turtle Lake at Bangor, River Ridge at Black Hawk/Warren, Gilman at Edgar, and the lone #2 left, Lourdes Academy at Hilbert.

In 8-player football, it's semifinal time with all four #1 seeds advancing. #1 Luck will meet #1 Shell Lake at Cumberland on one side of the bracket, with #1 Belmont getting #1 Newman Catholic at Middleton on the other side.

As of posting time, the games are all Friday night at 7 p.m.

Of the 30 games statewide, four of the games can be heard on the free iHeartRadio app.
