For the second time in school history, the DeForest Norskies are state champions in football.
Gabe Finley's 13-yard touchdown with 32 seconds left in the game and the two-point conversion completion from Trey Schroeder to Nolan Hawk delivered Deforest an 8-7 victory over Menasha in the Division 3 championship. It was the final game for longtime Norskies coach Mike Minick.
After Menasha scored on their opening drive, the game settled into a defensive battle, as each team committed four turnovers. The Blue Jays got the ball with 1:39 left in the fourth quarter, but were forced to punt the ball back to DeForest, giving the Norskies one final possession with 75 seconds left.
DeForest was able to drive 63 yards for the score and put in the two-point conversion on a jump pass to take the lead, and eventually, the second championship in school history.
