What a night for area high school hoops.
The Big 1070's Game of the Week saw DeForest stay atop the Badger North with a 63-45 win over defending conference champion Mount Horeb. Plus, Waunakee, La Follette, and others scored big wins in a packed Thursday night slate of games.
DeForest and Waunakee now share the Badger North lead at the halfway point of the conference season at 6-1, with Reedsburg at 5-2 and Mount Horeb and Sauk Prairie at 4-3. Waunakee won 60-45 over Reedsburg, while Sauk Prairie downed Portage 56-32 to end the first run through the conference.
The Big 1070's broadcast of DeForest-Mount Horeb is below. On February 27, The Big 1070 will broadcast Waunakee's rematch with Reedsburg.
In the Big 8, La Follette stayed undefeated with a 71-61 win over rival East. The two top-ten teams in the state battled close throughout, but as the Lancers have done to Brookfield Central, Sun Prairie, and others, La Follette closed out strong to pick up a key win in the conference standings. The Big 1070 will broadcast the La Follette-East rematch on February 21.
Other Big 8 action saw West outlast Craig 68-67, Madison Memorial take down Janesville Parker 81-56, and Sun Prairie win over Middleton 68-58. La Follette leads the Big 8 by one game over Sun Prairie at 8-0, while East sits in third place at 5-2.
Only two Badger South games were on the schedule, but Milton got a huge 97-84 win over conference-leading Monroe to scramble the top of the standings. Milton jumped into fourth place with the win, while Monroe now shares the conference lead with Stoughton at 5-1. Oregon also knocked off Fort Atkinson 69-25 in other conference action.
Thursday marked the Capitol Conference openers as well, with Lake Mills and Columbus getting wins in the North and New Glarus and Marshall picking up victories in the South.
Finally, in other southern Wisconsin action, D4 #1 Cuba City downed D4 #3 Darlingon 86-61 in a match-up of top-three programs. River Valley got a key conference win over Lancaster 65-57, and Fennimore got a big 76-63 win over Mineral Point.
The Big 1070 will resume Game of the Week coverage on January 28 and 31 with a double-dip into girls basketball before jumping back into the Big 8 with Middleton hosting Madison Memorial on February 7 in boys basketball.
