Sunday, the WIAA released the state tournament brackets for girls basketball statewide. Here are the number one seeds and all of the brackets.
Defending state champion Bay Port got the #1 seed in Sectional 1. They'll have #2 Kimberly, who Bay Port defeated 63-53 last year, to contend with in the sectional. Germantown is the #1 seed in Sectional 2. In Sectional 3, last year's state runner-up Middleton is the #1 seed, while strong contender Madison Memorial is the #2 seed. Finally, in Sectional 4, Mukwonago, a state participant last year, earned the #1 spot.
Hortonville, a state participant last year, and River Falls are the #1 seeds in Sectional 1. Three-time defending state champion Beaver Dam is a #1 seed in Sectional #2, with state participant Whitefish Bay in the #5 seed in their half-sectional. Notre Dame is the other #1 seed in this sectional. Sectional #3 has last year's state runner-up, Monroe, as a #5 seed behind top-seeded DeForest, a team Monroe beat en route to state last year. Union Grove is the other #1 seed in Sectional 3. Sectional 4 doesn't have any of the teams that advanced to state last year, with Pius XI and New Berlin Eisenhower grabbing the #1 seeds.
Arcadia and St. Croix Falls are the #1 seeds in Sectional 1, which also includes Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau, who made it to state a season ago. G-E-T is the #6 seed in Arcadia's half-sectional. Wrightstown and Valders are the pair of #1 seeds in Sectional 2, with 2019 state-qualifier Freedom as the #2 seed opposite Wrightstown. Defending D3 champ Marshall got a #1 nod in Sectional 3, along with Platteville. Marshall's half-sectional includes last year's state runner-up Laconia as a #3 seed. In Sectional 4, the top seeds are Lake Mills and Clinton.
State runner-up Melrose Mindoro and perennial power Colfax highlight the top line of the Sectional 1 bracket. Bonduel and Auburndale got #1 seeds in Sectional 2, with Colby, a state semifinalist last year, locked in as the #4 seed opposite Auburndale. Aquinas, the overwhelming favorite in D4 and defending champion, is one of the #1 seeds in Sectional 3, along with Poynette. Howards Grove and Racine Lutheran own the top billing in Sectional 4, with Milwaukee Academy of Science, a state participant last year, as the #5 seed in the Racine Lutheran half-sectional.
Clear Lake and Hurley lead off as #1 seeds in Sectional 1, with last year's state runner-up Clayton a #13 seed on Clear Lake's side of the bracket. Perennial contender and state participant in 2019 Newman Catholic is a #1 seed, along with Oneida Nation, in Sectional 2. Bangor and River Ridge get the top slots in Sectional 3, while defending state champion Black Hawk has a #1 seed in Sectional 4, with state semifinalist Fall River the #2 in their bracket. Oakfield is the other #1 seed in Sectional 4.
