Big 8 announces all-conference honors for winter sports

Here's a look at the Big 8 All-Conference list for 2019-2020 in boys and girls basketball, as well as boys hockey.

In boys hockey, the first team includes four Verona Wildcats: forwards Cale Rufenacht and Walker Haessig, defenseman Nathan Jurrens, and goalie Kaden Grant. Other first-team players include Sun Prairie's KAden Brunson, Carter Watters, and Nick Johnson and Madison West defenseman Devin Huie. Rufenacht and Brunson shared Player of the Year honors in the Big 8, while Verona coach Joel Marshall earned the conference's Coach of the Year honors after leading the Wildcats to a Big 8 title and a trip to the state tournament.

First-team All-Big 8 in girls basketball includes Madison Memorial's Leilani Kapinus, Mia Morel, and Emmoni Rankins; Middleton's Sitori Tanin; Madison East's Kalena Bentley; Verona's Rayna Briggs; Sun Prairie's Jazzanay Seymore; and Janesville Craig's Claudia Fieiras. Kapinus earned Player of the Year honors, while Madison Memorial coach Marquis Flowers took home Coach of the Year honors. The Big 8 Defensive Player of the Year went to Memorial's Daiysha Brown, who also made second-team all-conference.

Big 8 champion Madison La Follette led the way in boys basketball with three first-team All-Conference players: Isaiah Stewart, Derek Gray, and B en Probst. Janesville Craig got two players on the first-team: Angelo Rizzo and Caleb Scoville. Also making the first team for the Big 8: Madison East's Keonte Jones, Sun Prairie's Colin Schaefer, and Madison West's Dayne Armwald. La Follette's Stewart was named Player of the Year, while East's Jones was named Defensive Player of the Year. La Follette coach Curtrel Robinson was named Big 8 Coach of the Year.
