Big 8 Conference issues updated guidance on spring sports

Friday, the Big 8 Conference laid out a timeline for the potential return of spring high school sports based on the Safer At Home order issued by Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers earlier in the week. Practices could resume as early as April 27, with competition returning in early May.

From the press release issued Friday by the Conference, the Big 8 Athletic Directors also collectively noted that this is a rapidly-changing situation and that the Conference would take its guidance from the WIAA:

With the Safer at Home current date of April 24th, the earliest we would return to practice is on April 27th. At the earliest, Big 8 Conference competitions would begin on May 7th, although school-by-school decisions for non-conference competition may vary. We will support all schools in their local decisions and follow the guidance of the WIAA which has paused spring sports in accordance with the statewide school closure.

Each sports' respective coaches association has also published FAQ guides for schools in regards to WIAA Tournament eligibility, practice and acclimatization requirements, and potential start dates for practices and games.
