Waunakee to play conference-only football schedule in 2020

Waunakee is the first area high school to cancel football games this fall, eliminating its non-conference games against Reedsburg on August 21 and Middleton on August 28.

Jon Masson of the Wisconsin State Journal reported that Waunakee Activities Director Aaron May learned Monday night that the Waunakee School Board voted to implement the conference-only schedule for the school, delaying the start of football practice until August 17. Wisconsin high schools can begin issuing equipment as early as August 3, with scheduled first games on August 20 and 21.

May told Masson that a sub-committee will be formed to look at schedules in other sports and work in accordance with Dane County guidelines.

Travis Wilson of WisSports.net was the first to report the cancellations on Tuesday morning.

On Tuesday morning, the Waunakee School District released a statement regarding its fall sports changes, which you can read by clicking here. You can also read it below.

Waunakee will visit Janesville Parker on September 4 to open up Badger Large Conference play in football.
