Here's the new fall high school sports start dates in Wisconsin

With the WIAA passing a motion to delay the start of fall high school sports, there are obviously impacts to the start dates for competition of those sports.

Practices begin for low-risk sports on August 17 and high-risk sports on September 7, but actual competition will be delayed, depending on the sport, a week or two later.

  • Girls Golf and Girls Tennis can begin late in the first week of their start, August 17. Girls swimming can begin the week following, the week of August 24.
  • Boys and Girls Cross Country were not impacted by the decision and will begin like normal, with their competitive seasons beginning the week of August 24.
  • The sports of boys soccer, girls volleyball, and boys volleyball will see their practices begin the week of Labor Day, with competitions set to begin the week of September 14.
  • Football, meanwhile, will not have its first games until September 24 or 25, and operate with a nine-week playing schedule, down from 14 weeks in a normal year.

The WIAA motion passes Thursday also allows for sports to be delayed until the spring if necessary. Also, there is no guarantee of state tournaments being held under the amended calendar for fall sports.
