Brewers Comeback to Beat the Padres 5-4 on a Walk-Off by McCutchen

After scoring just one run through the first 8 innings, the Brewers scored 4 runs without recording an out in the 9th inning to steal a 5-4 win over the San Diego Padres on Thursday night.

It was the ninth inning and one of the best closers in the game was coming in to pitch for the Padres, Taylor Rogers. But the Brewers immediately jumped on Rogers. Keston Huira started the inning with a single. Then both Kolten Wong and Victor Caratini were hit by pitches. Jace Peterson then ignited the fans that stuck around by hitting a three-run triple to centerfield to tie the game. There was still nobody out.

Andrew McCutchen was due up next. He was hitless in his last 32 at bats. But McCutchen said after the game that he “just knew” he was going to come through for his team in that spot. That he did. He delivered an RBI single to centerfield to score Jace Peterson from third and give the Brewers the comeback victory 5-4.

On the pitching side, Adrian Houser didn’t have a bad outing for the Brewers. He went five innings and didn’t allow an earned run. But he did have traffic on the bases consistently, leading him to throw 100 pitches in those five innings.

Peter Strzelecki made his MLB debut for the Brewers on Thursday night. He pitched two innings and kept the Brewers within striking distance by allowing just one run in the 8th and 9th innings.

The Brewers will continue their home series against the Padres on Friday night with the first pitch at 7:10pm at AmFam Field.
