Annual NFL Draft PSA: 21 teams passed on Aaron Rodgers in 2005

What would the NFL look like today had one of the 21 teams that passed on Aaron Rodgers drafted him before the Packers drafted the quarterback in 2005? The answer, clearly, is that it would look much different than it does today. What were the circumstances in 2005 that led to Aaron Rodgers' fall down the draft boards?

For starters, the team at the top of the draft, San Francisco, decided to pass on the California native and select Alex Smith #1 overall. No other team in the first round had a pressing or immediate need for a quarterback, and there was even still debate when the Packers were on the clock whether or not they should draft Rodgers, given that Brett Favre was still behind center.

What happened at the 2005 NFL Draft changed the course of Packers (and NFL) history. Here's the Aaron Rodgers NFL Draft story from NFL Network.
