Packers defeat Lions 42-21 to improve to 2-0

Another slow start faded into a thrilling offensive showing for the home team at Lambeau Field.

Two long touchdown runs by Aaron Jones and a pick-six by Chandon Sullivan swung the game around for the Green Bay Packers, who trailed 14-3 at one point before rallying far past the Detroit Lions 42-21 on Sunday.

Jones, who had two touchdowns rushing and one receiving, set a career-best for longest touchdown run, a 75-yard burst on the first play of the second half to put the Packers up 24-14. Jones finished with 168 rushing yards and led the Packers with 68 receiving yards.

Aaron Rodgers threw for 240 yards and touchdowns to Jones and tight end Robert Tonyan. Green Bay's offense moved the ball well on the ground, going for 259 yards rushing and 488 total offensive yards.

Defensively, in addition to Sullivan's pick-six, Rashan Gary had 1.5 sacks and pressured Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford on Sullivan's interception return for a touchdown. Za'Darius Smith, Preston Smith, and rookie Vernon Scott all each had quarterback sacks as well.

Green Bay's defense buckled down in the second half after giving up 24 fourth-quarter points to Minnesota last week, giving up just one touchdown to the Lions in the second half in the win. Detroit managed 307 yards in the game, just 89 on the ground.

For the second straight game, the Packers did not turn the ball over.

Next up, the 2-0 Packers hit the road to take on the New Orleans Saints on Sunday Night Football, their first of two prime-time games.
